LÁ NA GCRANN – OCTOBER 2016.
National Tree Day fell on Thursday, 6th October 2016 and Rooms 4 and 5 (first classes) conducted a joint field trip in the school field to investigate all things arboreal! We learned that deciduous trees lose their leaves in winter because, if the tree held onto its leaves and they froze in cold temperatures, the tree would die. Leaves store food and as the tree withdraws all the last nutrients from them, they turn into all the gorgeous autumn colours that we see. The pupils collected various leaves, conkers, beech seeds, acorns and pieces of bark. Back in class, they created leaf rubbings before creating a wall display with teacher’s help.
