INVESTIGATING SOUND
First class had lots of fun engaging with a hands-on activity that involved a fun aspect as well. Their teacher set the children a challenge: could they identify a material simply from the sound it made when the container it was in (a disposable cup) was shaken? The pupils began by observing photos of the various materials which the teacher had prepared in a power-point presentation. Next they shook each cup and predicted what material was contained. The materials were fully concealed inside the cups so the pupils had to depend upon their sense of sound (and to some extent, their sense of touch). The pupils recorded their guesses before teacher enacted the big reveal!
